Hey Distance Team - The feedback from some of your teammates is that most of you have been doing your best to follow the workouts during these unusual times. As we wait to see an updated decision on spring sports from CHSAA, here are some recommendations for the remainder of the season:
1 - It will benefit you most to follow the training schedule the best you can through the remainder of the Track season (May 23).
2 - May 24 - June 7 - Break from running before we start Summer XC Camp June 8.
3 - Research on Keeping a Training Routine - The reasons we want you to keep training during track is based on the following research: It has been shown that athletes who compete in 5k's may only lose 10 seconds off their 5K time after a week of inactivity, but after a month of inactivity, that 5K time loss of time can grow to a minute. After 2 months of inactivity, the 5K time can slow as much as 25 percent. The is because the body loses the ability to circulate and use oxygen efficiently. Endurance is among the first traits of fitness to go, even among the most fit. This is why following a routine the best you can is beneficial.
